Socialites: Toronto Fashion Week – Dare to Wear Love

This past friday night, I was invited by the lovely Sarah, our dear friend and ‘socialite’ to the closing show  “Dare to Wear Love” at World Mastercard Toronto Fashion Week.  Clearly we needed to rock our best fascinators that night!

Decked in a Black Jumpsuit, Sarah wore a custom Lady Egypt Fascinator from our F/W10 Collection in Black and Blush.  I have been DYING to wear Lady Envy somewhere from the new S/S12 Fascinator Collection, so I donned my favourite Suzy Chin Navy Dress, new Nine West Kitten Heels (because this milliner still has an injured foot…no 5″ stilettos for me…) and topped it off in Fabulous Green.

I’m not going to lie, we attracted a lot of attention at the show…as we sipped sparkling champagne, we had our photos taken by numerous guests and media outlets…love being papparazzi’d.

Today, much to my surprise, we found ourselves in both the “Trend” photo for Day 5 of Toronto Life and as a separate photo of the two of us! how freaking exciting.

Not to overshadow the event with our fabulous photos…The Dare to Wear Love show was incredible.  Dare to Wear Love is a gala that closes out Fashion Week with proceeds benefiting the Stephan Lewis Foundation for HIV/AIDS in Africa.  This show is a fun, upbeat show, that has 25 selected Canadian designers, create fabulous wearable art from 6 yards of African Cloth.  These creations are worn by Canadian Celebrities, to name a fewJeanne Beker, Dina Pugliese, Chef Jamie Kennedy, Leesa Butler, etc…etc…Celebrities and models strutted their stuff on the runway for a great cause, and I was so thrilled to be a part of it!

here is Sarah and I in our two photos from Toronto Life and Please enjoy some beautiful shots of the Dare to Wear Love Show!

Creative: Baby Isabella with Boy/Girl Photography

A few weeks ago, we had the unique opportunity of working with Cristina Sacco, the beautiful photographer of Boy/Girl Photography, here in Toronto.  Cristina and I met at the National Bridal Show and instantly clicked.  She asked if she could shoot some of our pieces on a gorgeous 5 day old newborn, baby Isabella.  Obviously, elated at the chance to see some of our pieces on tiny little tyke, we agreed!

The shoot was fantastic! How adorable does the little wee one look with our big fascinators on her head!  Love these so much!

looking forward to collaborating more with Cristina in the near future!

Blushing Bride: Courtenay

We met Courtenay way back last summer and instantly clicked with her! She was so much fun, energetic and the fact that she showed us a picture of herself hanging out with an Emperor penguin made her pretty cool in our books!  Courtenay went through a few designs until we finally came up with the absolute perfect look for her!  She was looking for a beautiful oversized hand curled feather flower and we came up with the perfect design for her! So perfect, that a similar version can now be found in our 2012 Bridal Collection  Lady Peony.

Courtenay was such a cool bride.  One of her bridesmaids lives out west, so teleconferenced with her during our consultation to make sure we made the perfect piece for her.  She let both of her girls pick out and design EXACTLY what they wanted as she wanted to make sure they were happy, whether they fit into a colour scheme or not.  So cool!

Thanks Courtenay for allowing us to be a part of your day, you looked absolutely stunning! We enjoyed the challenge of making something totally new for you!

Creative: Nicole Richards & Co

When Nicole of Nicole Richards & Co asked us to borrow a few fascinators to shoot for her Beauty Book with the unbelievably talented Corina V, we were beyond excited.

Nicole did the beautiful make up for our Victorian Vintage Collection and couldn’t wait to work with her again.

Here are the gorgeous shots from the shoot, featuring our beautiful Whimsical Veiled Feather Fascinator, Vintage Fleur in Blush Pink and Whimsical Romance in White and Blush

Blushing Bride: Ashley

We have known Ashley since our high school days…wow…those days were a long time ago! le sign.

Ashley was always such a style maven.  Into the music and tattoo scene, she always looked the part and did it so well!

We were so beyond thrilled when she asked us to design a killer fascinator for her reception dinner and her wedding.  Knowing that Ashley would be daring and willing to stand out from the crowd, we went through all of my most audacious fascinators.  It was the last fascinator of the night that she tried on, by chance, as it was hiding in my hallway on a mannequin.  A black sequined number with a big cameo and a HUGE ostrich spine.  She loved it. It just suited her to a T.

Since the piece she tried on was sequined, and in black, we made a few alterations, matched her dress colour in the silk and designed her something completely new.  We loved Ashley’s piece so much, that we signatured it (with a few changes) and put it into our 2012 Bridal Collection – you will recognize this piece as our Lady Wisteria!

Ashley, you rocked this fascinator so well. It was just made for you.

Leaving the Nest: Peonies A Plenty

This Gorgeous order left the nest and starred in the wedding almost as quickly as they left!

We designed 6 of our gorgeous Red & Black Lady Mystique Organza & Chiffon Peonies (as featured in the S/S12 Wedding Bells issue) for the entire bridal party and this gorgeous Lady Mystique Ivory Crystal Flower for the beautiful bride!

Can’t wait to see photos of these pieces in action! Check back soon!

Photoshoot: Josie Lee Creative

Back a few weeks ago, we were approached by the Gorgeous Josie Lee, who was putting together a creative for a magazine submission.  She indicated that she was looking to do a Marie Antoinette Inspired Shoot, so naturally…we were on board!!!

Alex Maxim shot the creative, with Dax Salon doing the hair and make up.

What transpired was a beautiful splash of ornate blues and Renaissance delight!

Thanks Josie and Team for including us in this great shoot!

Blushing Bride: Lindsay

We met Lindsay last spring and instantly connected with her!  She was so bubbly and really knew that she wanted not 1, but 2 show stopping pieces for her wedding!  Lindsay had booked her hair design with the amazing Morgan of Scissor Kitty (Tale of Two Belles Hair Designer) and we couldn’t wait to design 2 great fascinators to go with Morgan’s beautiful inspirational hair!

For the Ceremony, Lindsay chose our Lady Orchid Fascinator but with a full wrap veil in White.  For her Reception, she chose our beautiful Lady Whimsical in White with Coral.  Both pieces looked amazing on her!

Congrats Linds on your wedding, you looked incredible

Leaving the Nest: Gorgeous Feathery Fascinators!

We created this gorgeous order for one of our most favourite brides! With the wedding taking place in Mexico we played up with some beautiful shades of Apple Green to really pop in the Mexican Sun.

We created our signature Lady Vintage Romance for the bride, of course with a few custom changes.  We added a few extra guinea feathers, who doesn’t LOVE guinea feathers, a bit more ostrich fringe for some movement in the soft Mexican Breeze. She will also be wearing our Signature Lady Blushing French Veil (not pictured)

Each Bridesmaids received a beautiful Apple Green Fascinator in the Whimsical Style, each a little different from the other and Lady Camellia Silk Ribbon Whimsical Flower.

For the Mother of the Bride and the Brides Aunt  (Who remind me of Sally Jesse Raphael – fantastic!) we created beautiful Black Whimsical Fascinators accented with Pearls and Crystals.

The mother, being as fabulous as she is, requested a 2nd Fascinator for the Mexico Wedding and the Canadian Reception, so we created a beautiful Whimsical Fascinator in Grey with a beautiful puff of French Veiling.  For the Mother in Law, we created a beautiful two toned Whimsical Feather Fascinator in Grey and Silver.

Stay tuned for photos!
